View Finding – Sundance Mountain Fire Lookout

This is part of a weekly series about view finding, those moments when you take a deeper breath and savor the sights, then fumble for your camera. Whether you’re running, hiking, biking, four-wheeling or skiing, take a moment to enjoy the view.

You could hike but we went by Jeep to the Sundance Mountain fire lookout above Priest Lake in Northern Idaho. This lake is my favorite place on earth, seeped in summer memories of rising early to ski the glassy water. While I could lounge at the lake all day, this lookout is great day trip if you have strong quads or four-wheel drive, especially if you find a huckleberry patch along the way. Don’t ask. I’m not revealing where we find those coveted purple berries.

  • Wow – amazing pictures, Jill! My fav place reminds me a lot of this place (only no mountains) extreme northern Minnesota – Lake of the Woods. It’s so beautiful up there! And your son (the taller) looks exactly like my nephew! They say everyone has a twin out there somewhere! 🙂

    • There’s just something about water, isn’t there. That’s funny your nephew looks like my son. Of course, my son looks a bit different these days. He’s now taller than me.
